PC [Farias, the political campaign treasurer of Brazilian President Fernando Collor de Mello] called himself the president’s best friend. Sometimes, after a few bottles of French champagne in the evening, he said, I give Fernando his orders. This got into the papers and Fernando was ropable. For the first and last time he threatened to break with PC.
