Helliconia Winter

from the diary: “Sunday 8/3/86

“I’m reading Helliconia Winter, the third and last Helliconia book.”

When I wrote about Julian May’s The Many Colored Land I may have been remembering the Helliconia books. Now that I’m faced with writing about the Helliconia books … uh … I don’t remember anything about them. Except maybe I found them kind of boring? Yeah, I remember subdued landscape covers …

I'm going through my books trying to reduce collection so it fits on the shelves I've currently got available. So far the Helleconia trilogy has made the cut because the covers are so pretty. Nice wraparound things that look much better in the hand than they do at the other end of that link. I find it hard to imagine rereading the books however. Such unpleasant characters doing such uninteresting things. So trapped in their circumstances and ignorant of their universe.

Yeah. That's what American politics is like in real life. I feel like I'm rereading & rereading a bad novel when I scan the news.
