Pride & Prejudice

From the diary: July 11, 1985

“Finished reading Pride & Prejudice.”

This was the first time I read Pride & Prejudice. I read it again three years later when it was assigned by an English professor at SRJC.

Women love Pride & Prejudice. Among the Stick questions was, “Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?” How many women answered, “Darcy!”

I’ll eventually work my way through Jane Austen. I enjoy her prose; she can be quite funny. I can’t say as I number Darcy, the available/unavailable suitor of P&P, among my crushes.

OMG.. Pride and Prejudice? That'd be torture... like reading War & Peace hehehe...

ANyway, you know, there's nothing wrong with scoring an "80". It just means that there's so much more to life yet to experience ;)

Every few months Sarah pulls out our collection of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. She doesn't always watch it all the way through. I can't say I think much of Darcy. He's not as bad a man as he first appears and he does improve himself but he's never quite likeable.

War & Peace ... good idea! But which translation?
